How to make an paper crane with flapping wings

Origami is a game unique to Japan. Origami is said to have originated in the Heian period, and the modern form of origami began around the Edo period. Origami is very interesting because you can make anythings from a single sheet of paper. Also, origami can be done not only by using special paper, but also by cutting unnecessary paper into squares. And, people of all ages can enjoy it, from children to the elderly.  However, some people say that origami is not good because it is difficult to fold. So, From now on, I will introduce an easy and interesting folding method.

I love origami since I was little girl. When I was in elementary school, there was a teacher who was very good at origami, and she taught me many ways to fold. After that, I fell in love with origami. I enjoyed folding various things. I would like to introduce how to make a crane known as this when speaking of origami. My cousin taught me how to make this crane. It's one of my favorite folds. And, it's not just any origami crane. It is a flapping crane with flapping wings. This way of making is almost the same as how to fold a common crane. Therefore, it is easy to make.

Way of folding

List of tools

・Origami (Origami paper cut into squares)

1. First, fold the origami in half to make a triangle and fold it in half again in same way.

You can choose the origami of your favotite color at this time.

2. Second, open the inside and fold, then fold the back side in the same way.

3. Third, with the open side of the origami facing down, align it with the center line and make creases on both sides. Make a crease on the back side in the same way.

4. Next, make a crease in the upper triangular part as well. unfold all folds.

By pressing the paper well and making cresses firmly, it will be easier to fold in the subsequent process.

5. Open the inside and fold along the crease. Fold the back side in the same way.

6. After that, with the movable side of origami facing up, fold it to the middle.

Turn it over and fold it in the same way so that it overlaps with the one you folded earlier.   Firmly fold along the crease for a beautiful finish.

7. Next, open both left and right, fold up both front and back sides.  Open left and right and fold in.

8. Make a crane face by folding the top third of the narrow side of the origami.

9. Hold the wide side of the origami pull it down about 1cm to fold it.

10. Finally, spread crane's wings.

Pinch the part under the crane's face and pull the tail up to move the wings.

Be careful not to pull the tail too hard as the paper may tear.

If you want to make a crane that doesn't flap its wings, fold both the left and right sides. You can make a normal crane by folding both sides of No.6 of this crane making method.  It was very strange and interesting for me as a child to see things move from a single sheet of paper. Origami uses your head, so I think it's good for brain exercises. If you have a small child around elementary school, please teach them and play with them. I would be happy if you could know the goodness and fun of origami.
